The Eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleburg is a important piece of analysis of The Great Gatsby. The image is creepy and eery. The signage is seen by George Wilson's garage. It is an advertistment for an optometrist. You cannot see the rest of the face, only the eyes. It has weathered over time, because it is filthy. We first see the billboard in Chapter 2 when Nick is meeting George and Myrtle Wilson for the first time. As we know Nick is the narrator of the book so having the imagry of the eyes is a cue to Nick. Saying that he is watching everything.
