WIDENING THE STORIES, WIDENING OUR WORLDS

THE VICTORIANS & SENIOR SEMINAR // ENGLISH 452 & 487W // SECTIONS 001

FALL 2022, 9:05 – 9:55 am MWF in SMITH W121

We enter a doubly exciting course this semester. In this combined Victorians course and English Senior Seminar, I will introduce you to some of the current lines of inquiry in Victorian Studies, challenging those of you earning Victorian course credit to create a project guided by those new trends and inviting those of you earning Senior Seminar credit to use those techniques on a project focused on a text of your choosing. Rest assured that while everyone will be challenged in this course, there are different requirements for those in different courses. During the semester, I will also be on my toes, bringing in shorter readings to expand the discussions arising from your engagement with the autobiography and two novels that will constitute the majority of our reading.

This COVE group will be the site of our class group timeline exercise that will supplement and expand on our class readings and discussion. It will also provide the Victorian students (and hopefully the Senior Seminar students as well) a platform by which to built their own timelines (complete with map components) so as to enhance your captsone projects and presentations.

Collective Class Timeline | Timeline

As we read throughout the semester, we will add to this timeline events that are mentioned in the texts we read. This work will allow us to have a visual representation of what we are reading and should also stimulate our own investigations into the sociohistorical contexts of the texts we explore.
