The Babadook

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

The Babadook, a psychological horror film from 2014, is filled with Gothic elements. It follows the life of a mother who lost her husband on the day her son was born, which has compromised her relationship with her son forever. The paranoia that consumes both of them within their home is a result of a children's book they read titled "Mister Babadook." It is after this reading that the horror and terror unsues and the mother and son are no longer able to feel at home in their house. The familiar becomes terrifyingly unfamiliar. Mister Babadook is a manifestation of what the mother has been repressing for so long and how it has caused her to perceive her son.
