Antoinette makes Lincolnshire significant because when she said, “The Yorkshire and Lincolnshire wolds . Wolds? Does that mean hills? How high?” (Pg 66). This quote shows how Antionette begins to dream about what she thinks England is going to be like. She’s asking these questions because she doesn't know about England’s landscape, so this was her comparing to the hills that she already knows being from Caribbean. The Wolds is a nationally important and cherished landscape mostly designed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1973 on account of its scenic beauty. Covering an area of 558 square kilometers or 216 square miles, the AONB contains the highest ground in eastern England between Yorkshire and Kent, rising to over 150m along its western edge. This information comes from Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys because the Lincolnshire Wolds shows how she’s getting excited about changing her life in England. Mapping this location shows how indecisive she is about her future, and her having hope about finding somewhere where she belongs.
