In 1864, Dinah was awarded the Civil List Pension, one of the few awards given to British writers at the time, for her services in literature. A Civil List pension is an honorary pension paid by the government as thanks for service. It was originally created to pay expenses for the sovereign and their families. Dinah used her pension to help struggling women writers.
