Folio 43 begins with the Roman numeral III to indicate the beginning of Chapter 3. After a revised introduction in Wilde's handwriting, Wilde pastes in the left hand column of p.17 from Blackwood's 1889 printing. Wilde makes annotations on the Blackwood's cutout and on the notebook page, and he adds a lengthy addition beside and below the cutout.
