Goblin Market (1981)

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

This is the First U.S. edition published in 1981 by David R. Godine, Publisher, Inc. This was published at 306 Dartmouth Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02116.

This publisher is known for a wide variety of genres, but is specifically an American book publishing company.

The book was marketed for pleasure reading towards "youngsters and adults", but due to nudity that is included in the images and the erotic, adult fairytale themes, it is said to be unsuited for children. It is now known to be considered for adults only due to its invoking of mature themes and erotic fantasy.

This poem is reprinted as a picture-book-as-art-book to approach this new form of post-moden gift book. This is intended to appeal to children, collectors, and prize-giving juries.

There is no other author, editor, or adapter named in this work, besides Christina G. Rossetti.

The artist that is responsible for the artwork and illustrations in this edition of Goblin Market is George Gershinowitz. This artist focuses on late-twentieth-century trends toward dual marketing. His illustrations are considered to be fine-art production.

There are illustrations on every page of this edition of Goblin Market. Some of the illustrations cover numerous pages, such as the fourth illustration covers both the fourth and fifth page. They are incorporated in both black and white, as well as in colour. There is an illustration on the cover, title page, and and on every other page throughout the book. The artist appears to have used water colour as well as pencil for some black and white illustrations.
