For Iceland, I decided to focus on the Laufas Heritage Farm Museum. I chose this museum because it was a wealthy priests household in the 19th century that I think has similarities to Jane Eyre. I believe that it very closely resembles Thornfield Hall. Very wealthy priests inhabited the house just like at Thornfield since Mr. Rochester lived there, and he was also very wealthy. I think this specific place has similarities to the novel because Christianity is very prominent throughout, as it would also be through a church. Since it is old and religious some people also believe it could be haunted, as Jane has also come into contact with supernatural things as she believed Thornfield to be haunted before. I think both Thornfield and Laufas show social hierarchy and religion, as mentioned in Jane Eyre. It also shed light on housemaids and servants even though Jane Eyre was set in England, but during the same time period Iceland was also experiencing similar things. A special characteristic of Laufas had a brides chamber where women prepared for events. This also relates to women being not equal to men as they are sectioned off to their own area of the house; which the same gender rules applied in England during the 19th century.
