In the year 52AD the Apostle Thomas came to Kerala, India to spread Christanity to the region. The Christian community that Thomas founded (St. Thomas Christian) had florish in Kerala for many cenutries until the arrival of the Portuguese in the year 1498. The Saint Thomas Christians were opreesed from their faith because the Portuguese had considered them to be hertic. The Portuguese had attempted to compel the St. Thomas Christians to submit into Rome through series of events. As a result, the St. Thomas Christians had split into being Catholic (Latin rite and Easrtern rites) and Othrodox.
