Malibou Lake

Malibou Lake, Agoura Hills in California has more than 100 screen credits for many Hollywood productions including one of the best known horror movies "Frankenstein" filmed in 1931.  The remote area of Santa Monica Mountains near present day Agoura Hills was largely inaccessible to many until 1925 when William Mullholland opened up a highway that allowed motorist to drive from Los Angeles to Malibu. The "lake" where Frankenstein's monster meets a little girl "Maria" played by Marilyn Harris in the Bavarian Alps is a manmade reservoir known as Malibou Lake. It was originally part of a private mountain residential community known as Malibu Lake Club formed by the Malibu lake Club Dam at the confluence of two creeks, the wet Medea creek which runs through paramount ranch and Triunfo Creek. Today's day and age Malibou Lake is still a private lakeside community with historic cabins.   "Malibou Lake is one of Hollywood's best-kept secrets." Harry Medved an co author of "Hollywood escapes" had said. The lake has always been such a beauty to filmmakers who want to produce movies there. The lake itself is an enclosed space, individuals are not allowed to trespass. The after spot began originally as a resort and real estate development in 1922. Over years, the place continued to attract moviemakers. Not only was Malibou Lake a place where horror films were produced but it was also the setting for romantic movies, "The story of us" or "Must love Dogs".
