Maria Edgeworth as a Realist and Didactic Writer

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

Maria Edgeworth, one of the most well-known didactic writers, contributed greatly to European literature and the development of realist ideologies. Most of her works focused on education and politics and also was a leading role in the emergence of the novel in Europe. Many of her novels were extremely didactic both morally and socially, and she became one of the strongest voices in educative literature. However, it is argued that the only significance her writing imposed was the enforcement of the lesson in each story, which is where she retained popularity. Some of her most popular works of literature include Practical Education, Castle Rackrent, Belinda, and Helen.
