Scutari, now Üsküdar, is a district and municipality in Istanbul, Turkey, on the Anatolian shore of the Bosphorus. Originally a city founded by Greek settlers in the seventh century, it is now one of Istanbul’s oldest residential areas. During the Crimean War, Florence Nightingale worked at the Scutari Barracks, built in 1800. Today, the northernmost tower of the barracks is a museum dedicated to her work.
