Stephenson's Rocket

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

Stephenson's Rocket (City of London Museum of Science)

The image I have added is to show us the type of immense change throughout society due to the industrial revolutuion during the Age of Romanticism. Everyone was bringing new ideas and inventions to light in order to make life easier and provide for a population that was growing exponentially. Many had moral dilemmas about the elimination of traditional community roles such as tilling fields and spinning wool, etc. which had kept the lower class fed and housed for generations. Fear of unknown was a primary driver of writing and art at the time. Others had objections to some of the techniques that brought about more food and goods, such as inhumane treatment of workers and mass breading of animals just to make them all the more ripe for butchering. All of these thougths and feelings played a part in the literature of the age.
