Us (film)

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

Us is a horror film from 2019 that explores the idea that there are doubles of some of the world who are treated the opposite of how their original is treated in life. The result is horribly mistreated and vengeful doubles, looking to take the place of their others. A lot of the themes and ideas in this movie of course, have to do with doubleness, which is the reason that I first saw the connection, but I also see a lot of the ideas that Brantlinger talks about in his writing here. The premise is used to reveal and explore a dark underbelly to society, one that exposes the exploitative and damning workings of people attempting to "better" the world. We see these hidden spaces explored, a possible revolution of the world along with its downsides, and an intense exploration of societal growth and the way that we relate to each other in the world.
