I am showing off the magazine of a cover about what was expected from me during the Victorian Era. We had to stay at home and work on the house and make our husband proud. I enjoy sharing about home life in the Victorian era. As wives, everyone's husbands like to show off a perfect and faithful wife. The women get together and love to talk about their job, their kids and what chores they have to do around the house for their husband. I relate to the magazine article because it reminds me of how the main role of women in my social circle is to stay home with our children, care for them, read to them and create a home for our families. I love this magazine because of what it represents for me during my time in the Victorian era with gender identity and gender roles that were the same for men and women for a long time and this picture and article name showcases it. In my life, I did everything I could to not give into the goblins or men until I was forced to, because I needed the fruit to save my sister. It taught me to not give into sexual temptation no matter the cost, but saving my sister is what I had to do. The Victorian Era has taught women to always support their husband, have the utmost manners, and to make a comfortable home for their families and to make their husbands happy.
Editorial commentary: This item which I chose is the magazine cover of women during the Victoria era in their main role that emphasizes the gender identity they had as women. Their main role was to cook, clean, and take care of the kids, but nothing more. Women always went along with being the stay at home mom, but after time, they wanted to get jobs and have a life outside of their family. Lizzie seems satisfied with her role. Later in the Victorian era, women longed to not just support their husbands and began to have identity crises from this because they weren't able to have their own life outside of family life. In the poem, Lizzie had difficulty with the temptation of giving into sexuality, the goblins or men in general. This is because that meant having to look bad in society's eye if you had acted like a complete fool. Women tend to do the housework and to not stray away from the gender identity of how women were perceived during this time. Lizzie, after going through her experiences with the goblins and when she was older and married, explained to her children so they know to always stay away from temptation and never give into anything. She goes on to explain to just do your job as the wife or husband and mother and never stray away from that. Lizzie learns about her sexual tendencies after this incident, that she is stronger than she thinks and can just do her job as a wife and mother like in the picture. Lizzie learns to be loyal and confident in her gender role as a woman and her responsibilities.
