Families all over the world were relieved to hear the news. World War I finally ended on November 11, 1918. The Great War came to an end when Germany formally surrendered by signing an armistice agreement with the Allies. From this point forward, this day was called Armistice Day. World War I claimed the lives of over 9 million soldiers and injured 21 million soldiers. Germany and the Allied Nations signed the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919, ending the global conflict once and for all. After four gruesome years of combat, WWI was known as the “war to end all wars.”
