When writing the poem, Goblin Market, Christian Rossetti was at the St. Mary Magdalene Penitentiary in Highgate which was created to correct fallen women. The term "fallen women" is described to be prostitutes and any woman that got caught having sex outside their marriage and was punished for it. The role C. Rossetti played was a supporter, she acted as a model to these women, in the same sense of a "sisters keeper". She uplifted these women through prayer. Her goal was to show these women their worth along with the proper way to let this temptation go. The picture above shows the two sisters, Luara and Lizzie. You see one is standing over the other. Lizzie standing over Laura. She is having to nurse her sister back to life, because of her actions to protect her. This is a comparison to the role C. Rossetti played to the women in the church.
