The Antonine Wall in Scotland was built

The building of the Antonine Wall began in AD 142 and took approximately 6 years to complete. It significantly shifted the northern border of Britain, occupied by the Romans at the time. Quintus Looius Urbicus, a Roman general, led the Antonine Wall's construction. It was made of earth and timber and stretched about 37 miles. "It marked the extent of the Roman military advance northwards from the existing frontier of Hadrian’s Wall" (Ben Johnson). The wall's primary purpose was to protect the Roman frontier from the Caledonian raids. Despite time and decay, substantial remnants can still be seen of the wall today.
