“Empathy, Inner Imitation and Sense-Feelings” by Theodor Lipps appeared in his Asthetik: Psychologie des Schönen und der Kunst, volume 1 (Hamburg and Leipzig: Leopold Voss, 1903). Parts 1 and 2 deal with pleasure and empathy, respectively, and are followed by parts on space, rhythm, and color. Volume 2, appearing in 1906, illustrates these principles through examples drawn from the visual arts.
