First Edition of Pride & Prejudice Published
Jane Austen sold the copyright of Pride and Prejudice to Thomas Egerton from the Military Library, Whitehall for 110 pounds. Egerton published the first edition of Pride and Prejudice in three hardcover volumes on January 28, 1813. It gained many positive reviews that caused the first edition to sell out with a second edition published in October of that same year. The novel was still published anonymously, but was attributed in this first edition as "the Author of Sense and Sensibility".
