Formation of People’s Will
August 1879 saw the formation of Narodnaya Volya or People’s Will in the Russian Empire. People’s Will was a terrorist organization formed when Land and Liberty split, and was dedicated to the assassination of key government figures. The coverage of its activities caused considerable moral panic in Britain and was immediately put to sensational uses by British writers.
