Housing in the Slums
As reflected in Bleak House, the Victorian housing situation for the poor was not the best. One can see this through the character of Jo and the quality of his condtion and his tradgetic death. By the 1965's there were efforts being made to improve the housing in the slums. Through this effort there were over 400 high-rise blocks added in London (214). There was immense need for these housing complex's being build and this is a clear change from the London we have seen throughout Bleak House. These housing blocks provided space for the citizens of London to have proper and safe housing. Though the building of architecture is not my study focus I still thing this event pertains to philanthropy because the building of the housing had a direct postive impact on the poor and meet their basic needs.
