Jane Attends the Theatre Royal

When Jane and her family were in Southampton, they attended The Theatre Royal to enjoy two plays. Austen enjoyed theatre, and she utilizes her love for performances in her novels when her characters attend the theatre. She also would perform plays for her family in her house when she was growing up. Another interesting point about this theatre is that it was built by Mr. Collins, who was the proprietor. The same name was used for Elizabeth Bennet's cousin, Mr. Collins, in Pride & Prejudice.
