Royal Archaeological Assoc established
In September 1845, the Royal Archaeological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland was established. After an acrimonious split, the Archaeological Institute was founded as a rival to the British Archaeological Association, established in 1843-44. Both groups held regular summer meetings from the time of their inceptions onward. James Talbot, 4th Baron Talbot of Malahide was the president for 30 years until 1882.
