From 1966-1972, the Artifical Intelligence Center of Stanford institute developed the first robot with the ability to make its own decisions about how to behave.  Shakey was able to receive, interpret, and execute natural language commands, even when they were multistep processes.  Shakey was later inducted into the Carnegie Mellon Univerisyt’s Robot Hall of Fame in 2004.  Image is a picture of Shakey the robot with its parts labelled.  Image by SRI International - SRI International, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=17294520
