The Slavery Abolition Act

The Slavery Abolition Act was an expansion upon the the Slave Trade Act of 1807. It abolished slavery within the British Empire, freeing over 800,000 slaves. It received Royal Assent on August 28th, 1833, but it did not go into effect until August 1st, 1834.
