St. Mark's Campanile Collapses

The Campanile (bell tower) collapsed suddenly due to multiple construction flaws. No one died in the collapse except for the Campanile's custodian's cat. Fortunately, the church was saved because the corner column did not collapse. The Municipal Administration promised that the Campanile would be rebuilt just as it was. This is an image of the ruins after the collapse. See page for author [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ARuins_of_St_Mark's_Campanile.jpg
