Suzy Solidor's Nightclub
The model depicted in my assigned image is Suzy Solidor, who was a famous French singer and actress. Solidor was an icon in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s. However, Solidor had a goal to make a prominent name for herself in the entertainment industry beyond just singing and acting. She initially established herself as a model. Her genres varied, as she appeared in photographs, paintings, and drawings. Solidor worked with and posed for many different artists including Francis Bacon, Jean Cocteau, Tamara de Lempicka, and of course, Man Ray. Solidor's modeling work earned her the title of the most painted woman in the world. While establishing this title, Solidor also wished to utilize her vocal talents to further establish herself in entertainment and the arts. She became the first woman to own a nightclub, La Vie Parisienne, which opened in 1932. Solidor helped her club flourish by also utilizing her sexuality. She was a lesbian and often performed rather promiscuous, erotic songs to audiences in her club. She often gained a wide range of strong reactions from her audiences, which inevitably kept them coming back. Suzy Solidor was a very famous, well-known figure during her time. However, her presence has seemed slowly diminish, as not many people know of her work and contributions to entertainment.
