First MarriageIn 1884, she married the artist Charles Walter Stetson, despite having hesitancy on marrying him, from all accounts the marriage seemed to be unstable and broken. This loveless marriage may have influenced her Magnus Opus, The Yellow Wallpaper, which tells a woman confined in the house due to her husband's controlling behavior.
