Historical Context- Mustard gas was used in the first World War. This harmful gas if inhale by a soilder would result in terrible blisters across the entire body and could possibly be fatel if a large quantity was inhaled.

Influence on Literary Work- Owen descibes in his literary work of the terrible and gruesome effected the mustard gas had on his fellow soilders that were with him in the trenches. We can see Owen describe the effects in his “Dule Et Decrum Est”.
