Description:
The new deal was a series of programs that were instituted during the Great Depression by President Franklin D Roosevelt. The goal was to restore prosperity to Americans. Fire side chats were President Roosevelt's way of speaking to the country. During his first fireside chat, he told Americans previously about the four-day bank holiday to stop people from withdrawing their money from shady banks. He told Americans to put their money back in the banks. By the end of the month 3/4 of the banks had reopened. The first 100 days as president is especially important for Roosevelt. He wanted to stop prohibition. He went to Congress and Congress made the 21st amendment and ended prohibition. The TVA, or Tennessee Valley authority act was created to build dams along the Tennessee river that controlled flooding. In the spring of 1935 President Roosevelt released a second new deal. This was more aggressive than the previous one. he made the works progress administration to help get jobs for people who are unemployed with the new deal more women were able to enter the workforce his domestic programs were then followed by President Harry S Truman. Multiple films were made later into the new deal era. Some of these movies include Citizen Kane, The Grapes of Wrath, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and it is a wonderful life. Many programs were made during the new deal, but most were abolished during World War II. The poem that I have chosen is President Roosevelt, inaugural address speech one of his most famous quotes comes from this speech. "Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed effort to convert retreat to advance" (Roosevelt) What he is saying here is that we do not fear until we know there is something to be fearful about. It is nameless. There is no reason it is unjustified. It paralyzes us and we want to run, and we want to hide. "In every dark hour of our national life, a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give support to leadership in these critical days." (Roosevelt) what he is saying here is that when we have been in the dark and have needed someone to help us out, there is always someone for that job. President Roosevelt is telling us that he will be the person to give us that support, and that leadership in those crucial days. in conclusion, the new deal was impactful and made a difference.
