Description:

Display Explanation For this project we were assigned to think in the mind of a museum curator. For my exhibit I decided to use the title Unmasking the Unseen. When A person first walks into the exhibit I there will be pools of natural light over the paintings and key parts of the exhibits mostly being shown with dome windows above them the idea of the pools of natural light is the fact that these paintings are unmasking the darkness within the room. There will be light playful music playing around the exhibit giving the idea of come and find me my secrets lay in the light. On the floor there will be a path to lead to each painting the floor will have lights in them so visitors can see where they are walking with that being there will be four paths to the center of the exhibit there will be a grand fountain. The fountain its self will be painted on the outside with the colors of blue and white. Blue is for wisdom and peace and white for innocence and the idea of new beginnings. Around that fountain flowers of daises and be surrounded by ferns. Daisies represent new beginnings while ferns bring in the idea of peace and tranquility while not taking away from the art itself each image will be presented on an easel with a lush patch of green grass to sit on with natural light shining down upon each image. The image of Delightful Land painted by Paul Gauguin will be the first image to be displayed in the exhibit I want this image to be on an easel with vines wrapping around it. Vines have the idea of resilience behind it from the way they can grow in harsh environments. Around the image itself the tiare flower will surround the top left corner of the painting this flower is known to show its welcoming hospitality and feminine and he second flower to be shown with this piece it iris flowers at the bottom right corner of the image for there definition of resilience and endurance these flowers will create light contrast and intertwinement of the already tropical scene of the painting. For the second image of Lady Lilith painted Dante Gabriel Rossetti I want the easel to be wrapped in Ivy tendrils for their alluring qualities. Around the image itself there will be irises for their striking color that connects to Lady Lilith's mythological seductiveness. On the floor around the bottom of the easel there will be thorn bushes specifically hawthorn bushes to swirl around the idea of caution and danger. for the last painting in the exhibit that will be displayed is called The Annunciation painted by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. for this painting the easel would be wrapped in ferns for their peaceful qualities and their light green color makes a good contrast to the painting. On the right corner of the painting there will be white lilies for their purity and innocence within the bigger message of the painting.

Image Instulation For the second part of this insulation project we were assigned to look at the sexual philosophy of each of the images we picked to put into our project. From my first image of Delightful land painted by Paul Gauguin from the known history behind this painting Gauguin painted Delightful land as a sense of escape from the normal European social norms to create an image that captured a sense of a liberated adaptation of life. From what can be pulled from the image you can see in a way that Gauguin is romanticizing the idea of primal life. In this painting of Eve you get the sense that she is there for the idea of fertility in contrast to the background of what is behind her draws into the idea of pleasure. In short the sexual philosophy of this painting is that it is painted through the eyes of colonialists mindset. It is very obvious through the painting that Gauguin was not interested in the Tahitian culture but the fantasy of it.The second image in the insulation is Lady Lilith painted by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. In this painting Rossetti guides us through the interesting exploration of sexuality through the lens of feminine power and allure. The painting of Lady Lilith differs from the idea of traditional Victorian culture. In Victorian culture women were idolized as pure and passive. In contrast the painting Lady Lilith picks up on the qualities of unapologetic sexuality. Rossetti’s painting of Lilith celebrates the idea of sexual autonomy rather than shame it while also keeping the idea of Lilith’s dangerous and alluring nature. Lilith’s offset gaze and relaxed posture represent the idea of mastering her own desires enhancing the idea of power. This creates a good contrast to a Victorians perspective about feminine sexual freedomsFor my last image I chose the Annunciation painted again by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. In this painting Rossetti explores the entwined ideas of sacred and sensual. In Rossetti’s work Mary can be seen in the idea of the Virgin's body. In the painting she’s not just a use of a passive vessel for the divine conception but for the idea of strength and compassion. In Rossetti’s time the Virgin Mary was not only seen for her spiritual figure but as an idea of an archetype for feminine sexuality. This painting captures those qualities in the most extraordinary way possible by embodying the Virgin Mary through Chasity where her physical form directly highlights the idea of sensual nature around the idea of femininity. With Rossetti’s focus on beauty the natural line blurs between the ideas of desire and purity. This concept makes the idea come to light that even paintings of divine roped into the ideas of sensuality and human experiences. This is shown even through the meaning of the flower that the angel is holding out to Mary. In Pre-Raphaelite art symbolisms of flowers burn deep within paintings. The lily flower plays at the idea of sacred and sensual at the moment of the divine conception.
