Edward Lloyd

Edward Lloyd (1810-90) was a London-based publisher who revolutionized the cheap literature industry. Using technological innovations such as the steam press, Esparto grass paper, and wood engraving, Lloyd published cheap fiction including Lloyd's Newspaper, several fiction miscellanies, and many penny-part serials, especially the works of Thomas Peckett Prest (Ela the Outcasti) J and James Malcolm Rymer (Varney the Vampyre; The String of Pearls/Sweeney Todd). His London newspaper was the first to sell a million copies of one daily issue.
