The Ancien Régime's secondary palace. In a grand example of excess, this castle was used as a secondary housing (eventually becoming more common than the Louvre) to avoid residing in the capital (which was too crowded for the royalty). Therefore, this residence became the primary location of the monarchy.

In terms of geography, it is located Southwest of the Louvre (and Paris, generally).

During the Women's March on Versailles on October 5th 1789, the monarchy was officially relocated via force of crowds (around 7,000 women) to the Tuilleries in Paris, where they resided until death.
