COVE

From the ages of 10 to 25, Emily Dickinson lived in her family's home on Pleasant Street in Amherst, Massachesetts, to which a cemetery resided next door. During this time, Emily would have seen multiple friends and family members buried within its gates, so it is only fair that she developed an obsession with death and seemed to welcome it rather than fear it. Her bedroom window overlooked the grounds of the cemetery and she would often pass it in her daily travels. Not only did this cemetery play a part in her life, it also played a part in her death as it is the location in which she was buried. She once said of it, "I have often walked there sweet summer evenings and read the names on the stones, and wondered who would come and give me the same memorial.” As it turns out, many would visit her memorial in the cemetery to leave flowers and poems in memorium to the great poet's final resting place.
