Derbyshire
Derbyshire is located in the Midlands of England. Derbyshire is known for its exquisite country side, specifically the Peak District. The Peak District is beautiful moorland with hills and rivers. Besides its wonderful natural scenery, Derbyshire is also known for its grand houses. There are many grand houses dating back to the 15th century. For example, in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Elizabeth arrives at the fictional estate known as "Pemberely". Austen writes, "It was a large, handsome stone building, standing well on rising ground, and backed by a ridge of high woody hills; and in front, a stream of some natural importance was swelled into greater, but without any artificial appearance" (Austen). After Elizabeth lays eyes on the grand house for the first time, she remarks, "to be mistress of Pemberely might be something" (Austen). Here, her remarks indicate the beauty and striking grandness, for lack of better word, that the house has. Below is the house from the Pride and Prejudice movie.
