Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. Located in the city, the Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official home of the Scottish monarchy. There is evidence that the city dates back to 8500 BC. The city is most well known for the Edinburgh Castle, one of the oldest fortified places in Europe. 

"Arrived at Edinburgh a little before sunset. As we approached, the Castle rock resembled that of Stirling—in the same manner appearing to rise from a plain of cultivated ground, the Firth of Forth being on the other side, and not visible."
