Thornhill, Scotland
Thornhill, Scotland is a village that sits in the Nithsdale valley in the North of Scotland. This village is near Drumlanrig Castle, which was built in the 17th century and is now home to the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. In Recollections of a Tour Made in Scotland, Woodsworth passes through Thornhill in order to visit the Castle that resides near the village. Woodsworth takes note of what she sees, specifically mentioning, "Passed through the village of Thornhill, built by the Duke of Queensberry; the ‘brother-houses’ so small that they might have been built to stamp a character of insolent pride on his own huge mansion of Drumlanrigg,". Woodsworth's account of this makes Thornhill seem like a very tiny and poor village that pales in comparison to the giant castle that overlooks the village. It is also stated that the village is just outside of the Nithsdale river and you can gaze upon a great view from the hilltop of the village.
