COVE

The movie Coraline (2009) was directed by Henry Selick, inspired by the novella by Neil Gaiman. Following a young girl brave enough to escape her ordinary life into something greater, yet much more sinister, the movie raises questions about boundaries, limitations, childhood and the self, and excess, just to name a few of the tropes in the movie. Coraline is constantly pushing her boundaries by exploring a world beyond her own, revealing to herself the unknown. The main character participates in self–discovery when she challenges the antagonist and explores her own desires and how they can lead to her downfall. The main character explores a labyrinth within her own home, experiences deracination when she is tempted by the antagonist, and gets caught up in the excess of the antagonist's world when walking through places such as the garden and theater.
