Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands are located 300 miles off of South America’s eastern coast in the Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago is classified as a British overseas territory but has internal self-governance. The Falkland Islands have been historically controversial as various nations vied for control; France, Britain, Spain, and Argentina have all claimed rule of the islands at various points in history. The Falklands War in 1982 was a ten-week war between Argentina and the United Kingdom for control over the territory.
