Pere-Lachaise Cemetery, Paris

The Pere-Lachaise Cemetery, situated on the Boulevard de Ménilmontant, is the largest cemetery in the city of Paris. The cemetery opened in 1804 and was the first garden cemetery as well as the first municipal cemetery. In 1908, Oscar Wilde’s literary executor Robert Ross commissioned Jacob Epstein to design Wilde’s tomb. It was completed by Epstein, with an accompanying plinth by Charles Holden and inscription by Joseph Cribb.
