Gandamak is a village in eastern Afghanistan. It was the site of the Battle of Gandamak in 1842 and of the signing of the Treaty of Gandamak between the British government and Muhammad Yakub Khan, Amir of Afghanistan, in 1879.
Anglo-Afghan War. Though the British officially won the war, Afghanistan was hardly secure either during the occupation or in the decades that followed. In that sense, the first Anglo-Afghan war presaged a century of precarious imperial power on the frontier of the Raj.
