Punjab Region
The Punjab region stretches across parts of eastern Pakistan and northern India. As a cultural and geographical region, its borders are not formally defined. Punjab is home to the Golden Temple, a significant site in Sikhism, which originated in the region. In 1849, the British East India Company took control of the region from the Sikh Empire, who had previously established control after the fall of the Mughal Empire. In 1947, the region as divided into West Punjab and East Punjab.
