Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is a city located on the banks of the Sabarmati River in the state of Gujarat in western India. The city was taken over by the British East India Company in 1818. It became a center of the Indian textile industry. In 1864, it was linked by rail to Mumbai. With Mahatma Gandhi’s establishment of two ashrams in the area in 1915 and 1917, the city became a hub of the Indian independence movement.
