Nelson's Column

Nelson’s Column is a monument in Trafalgar Square, in the City of Westminster, London, England. The column commemorates Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758–1805), the Royal Navy flag officer who had gained fame for his leadership and strategy during the Napoleonic Wars and died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The monument was constructed between 1840–1843 and was designed by William Railton. It is topped by a statue of Nelson and features four bronze lions at the base.
