Poland is a country in central Europe, and its capital is Warsaw. World War II began with the German invasion of Poland in 1939, and more than six million Poles died in the war. After the war, the Soviet Union instated a communist government in Poland, which was overthrown by the Solidarity movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
