Kettner's
Kettner’s was a restaurant in Soho, in the City of Westminster in London, England. Located on Romilly Street, it was opened in 1867 by Auguste Kettner, believed to have been Napoleon III’s chef, and was one of the first French restaurants in London. It was a fashionable venue that was frequented by Oscar Wilde and King Edward VII. The latter allegedly wined and dined his mistress Lillie Langtry at Kettner’s, and it was rumoured that Edward had a secret tunnel built between the restaurant and the Palace Theatre where his Langtry performed. The restaurant featured private dining rooms upstairs, and allegedly gained a reputation as a place to meet for illicit affairs. Kettner’s closed in 2016 and was reopened in 2018 as Kettner’s Townhouse.
