Glenriddell was the home of Robert Riddell, a close friend of Robert Burns. He became a frequent house guest here and on the grounds of the home, Burns Hermitage is a place that Robert Burns often stayed. In 1873, it was remodled and named "Friars Carse". In 1938, Friars Carse was estabilished as a hotel.
