Blundeston is known for being the birthplace of David Copperfield. It is a village in Lowestoft within the county of Suffolk, England. This image, specifically, is recorded as David's childhood home, where he spent most of his early life in the novel- a place that can still be seen today. Within the time period of the novel, Lowestoft was known for being a quiet fishing town. It did not have means of a harbour, and therefore, was fairly solitary in its status as a fishing villiage.

The town became industrialized for needs of water and railroad transportation in light of the Victorian Era and the Industrial Revolution. Therefore, these improvements led to great rises in sea trade and commerce. The industries in which the town specialized most in were fishing and boatbuilding so that the economy of the time period would thrive. Also in light of the Industrial Revolution, the town was known for its oil and flour mills. The town is said to have been made a municipal borough in 1885, but lost this status later.
