There is a lot to look at while reading Bleak House by Charles Dickens. I have noticed multiple different things such as the use of opium and filth of the city. One thing that continually is prominant to me are the different roles of women throught the novel. Yu see the religious missionaries, verses the more uptight strong women. You also see the weak woen as well. My focus will be on the different social and marital constructs of the women throughout the novel and the men as that is important as well. When you look at the Snagsby they have a very equal marriage and it is interesting to see how men played a part towards womens rights as well. While I read the novel, looking for the different ways women react and act, is not too hard as there are many characters to look at. However, overall the book has been a little difficult for me to understand as the wording is interesting and it can be a bit confusing. My biggest challenge has been to understand what the author is trying to convey. This process has changed how I see the period because I am looking specifically for historical importance throughout the novel, usually I do not do that when I read books. The only book I really recall doing so is with the Bible, since historical context does matter. It almost makes the novel more personal. It will be interesting to see how my perspective continues to change as I continue to read.
